Celebrating the life of
John Edward Hendricks
September 09, 1949 - March 26, 2016
John Edward Hendricks, 66, passed away at his home in Garden City, GA on Saturday, March 26th.
He was born in Flint, Michigan on September 9, 1949. He was a Vietnam-era veteran and served in the Air Force as a ground traffic controller from 1968-1972.
After serving in the Air Force, he went on to a successful career in restaurant management. Eventually he and his wife Rachel settled in Charles Town, WV from 1989-2011, where they owned and operated a Golden Corral.
John was a man of faith and remained very involved in church communities from 1982 until he passed. He loved cooking and showing hospitality, fishing and target shooting, telling stories, laughing, and most of all, spending time and sharing love with his family. John’s door and heart was always open to anyone in need of a home or a father.
He is survived by wife Rachel; children Kammy Buffington (Mike); Meghan; Mary Considine; Erin (Gerson Reyes); Sam (Alex Westbrook); Kaitlin Shanahan (Colin); grandchildren Anna Williams (Robert), Alex Schooley, Ali Schooley, Desmond Ford, Brooklyn Branson, and baby due in September 2016; and great-granddaughter Lucy Williams; stepmother Katherine Gaspar; brother David Gaspar; and sister Diana Lemonds. He was preceded in death by father James Hendricks; stepmother Sharon Dault; mother Barbara Opyt and stepfather Cass Opyt; and stepbrother Alan Gaspar.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, March 31st at 2pm, at Fox & Weeks Hodgson Chapel in Savannah. Reception to follow at the home of Jeff & Laurie Rubnitz at 408 Megan Court, Savannah GA 31405.
I knew John for a short period of time. His steadfast point's of view and commentary will be missed by friends and co-workers. My family's condolences to the Hendricks "crew" as he called his family; a family that included his canine buddies. John's love of family and life is a testament of how to live life. May the Lord shower his divine grace upon the Hendricks family.
- Randy and Pam Holland, Pooler, GA
My sincere condolences to the Hendricks Family on the passing of your dear loved one. May Jehovah God, the God of comfort grant you his peace while you await the fulfillment of his promise at John 5:28(to resurrect those who have been asleep in death). May fond memories of John linger in your hearts and bring you peace in the days to come.
